Is an LGD Right for You?
Livestock guardian dogs are incredible working partners—for the right situation. Take our assessment to evaluate if an LGD fits your circumstances.
Before You Begin
Livestock guardian dogs are not suitable for every situation. They require:
- Adequate space (typically rural acreage with secure fencing)
- Livestock or animals to guard
- Tolerance for barking (they bark at night—it's their job)
- Patience (they take 2-3 years to mature)
- Understanding of independent working dogs
- Neighbors who won't complain about a working farm dog
This quiz provides general guidance. It cannot account for every situation, and no quiz can predict individual dog behavior or guarantee outcomes.
