Neolithic Era (~7000 BCE)

At Çatalhöyük, one of the most important early agricultural settlements in central Anatolia, researchers found that dogs were not yet specialized guardians. They served primarily as sentries and village scavengers (Russell, 2020). They alerted the settlement to danger, but the giant predator-defense morphotype had not yet emerged.

The Bronze Age Catalyst (~3000–1000 BCE)

The Bronze Age represents the critical transitional phase. During this era, mobile pastoralism and seasonal transhumance intensified across the Eurasian steppe. Shepherds began moving massive flocks away from fortified settlements and into deep, predator-dense mountains and plains.
